Kinsfolk Carers Edinburgh is a Edinburgh based charity support group for kinship carers. Kinship carers care full time for children who cannot live with their parents‚ for many different reasons.

These could be bereavement‚ neglect‚ parental drug or alcohol misuse. Many children are prevented from entering local authority care. Kinship Carers can be grandparents‚ aunties‚ uncles‚ brothers‚ sisters etc or even close family friends.

Kinship Carers care for children in difficult situations in Edinburgh and all over Scotland. We work in connection with other support groups all over the UK to provide support and guidance in the time of need

Did you know .......

As many as 1 in 10 grandparents may be looking after not only their grandchildren‚ but an elderly parent as well. Their status is not recognised‚ they are not paid and the government doesn't recognise their important role as carers.

Our Aims

How we got here ......

In 2005 a group of grandparents started up a grandparents group and listening centre. This was identified as there was lack of support for family carers. In the three years we have assisted others who were in need of support, we have increased from one drop in centre to three a week throughout Edinburgh.

We have helped to facilitate another two orgainastions in Edinburg, who are now up and running independantly. We would like to thank Simpson House and HBOS Group Services for there initial involvment and support into getting us where we are now.

What we are doing now ....

We are activley sourcing current information to provide kinship carers, such as with kinship care payments, accessing other forms of support and training.

We are continousley fund raising to reach our goal to provide a holiday caravan for families to give an oppertunity to enjoy time away, which would otherwise be out of reach for many families.
